case in point : Prachett's Cheri (or Cheerie) in the Discworld City Watch Arc, she is the first dwarf that outs herself as female (normally in the Discworld dwarfs are just assumed to be male) and uses lipstick. Angua the (female) werewolf remarks (admiringly) that in the dwarf society women can do what men do, to what Cherie answers "You can do what the boys do, as far as you only do what the boys do", which is not a solution, but just an other form of cardboarding.
